Forget me LOTS!

Tonight I had a last minute gig at Opening Bell Coffee in Dallas. I got called about 5 days, the owner saying he was desperate for a local opener because someone had cancelled on him last minute. I’ve been eager to get my foot in the door at this venue so of course I took the chance to play, but this “last minute-ness” apparently set the tone for the state of my mind during this entire experience.

When I arrived at the gig I had forgotten, of all things, my PIANO STAND! The thing that holds up my PIANO!! That’s the instrument I play! duh! Luckily this venue is super awesome and they miraculously had an extra keyboard stand just lying around….score!

Next up, I decide to dial up some Dallas friends real quick and invite them to the show. I know that seems very last minute to call people when I get to the venue, but like I said, I didn’t have much to time prepare for this gig so I figured, “better late than never.” So I reach into my purse to begin the dialing and I realize…I forgot MY PHONE! The one thing I use to contact people! The thing I tell people to call if they get lost trying to get to my gigs! What a nerd!!!!!

Oh well, time to move on. As many of you know this gig was another stop on my indie coffee shop tour, and so of course I wanted to take a few pictures to post on my sites to document the event. So I reach inside my purse to grab my camera (it was there!!!) and then go to turn it on and….NO BATTERIES!! I was charging my batteries at home before the gig and neglected to put them back in my camera, ahhhhhhhhh! ( I am now 3 for 3 on the forgetful front)!

Despite all these brainless shenanigans, we had a great show. I shared the stage with two other wonderful singer/songwriters and you can look them up if you are so inclined:

Next stop on the indie coffee tour is Crooked Tree Coffeehouse in Dallas on Saturday August 8th, hope you can be there!

the coffee continues…

Last night I had a great gig at Buon Giorno coffee in Grapevine, TX.

This is absolutly one of my favorite coffee houses to play because the staff is so nice, the coffee (mocha frappe!) is amazing and the owner, David, is a musician himself. He has this great sound system built into the shop and he even helps with the sound engineering…what more could I ask for!

The show was lots of fun and I had many good friends show up. First and foremost I got to meet for the first time one of my dearest SellaBand believers, Thad, and his very lovely family who drove all the way from Lake Worth and stayed for my whole 2 hour set. Also a friend Gwen and her family came out (Gwen helped us find our new house in Coppell!) and lots of other friends stopped by :) I think the hit of the night was my cover of “Spooky.” (10,000 points to anyone who knows this song!)

My next gig is at Opening Bell in Dallas (Lamar location) on this coming Weds. This is a last minute addition to the coffee shop tour, but the owner contacted me a couple days ago needing a local opener for a show already scheduled and I happily accepted. Hope to see you there!

Also, just want to give a shout out and big congrats to Katie Thompson, a good friend and co-writer, who has now reached $44,000 towards her SellaBand album!! Go support Katie at sellaband.com/katiethompson and as always, you can find my status at sellaband/com/arynmichelle

Hot Hot Hot

played outdoors tonight at a gig in Wylie, TX for WPA’s House Celebration. There was alot of cookies and alot of fun, but let me tell you, playing outside when its 101 degrees is not easy!!! The good news is that my gig tomorrow is inside :)

Well I hope its a little cooler in your neck of the woods. I’m having a hard time even getting much work done when I’m inside because I still feel like my brain is melting! My newest distractions are Facebook games (Bejeweled and Farm Town) and I know you’re saying, “But Aryn, how in the world do you have time for goofy flash games??” and I’ll tell you this, I don’t have the time, I’m suffereing from a desperate flash game addiciton!!!! Anyone have a 12 step program for something like this!?

18K and peaches!

Good day today!

I started out this morning playing the Coppell Farmer’s Market from 8-10AM (early!!!!) but there was a great crowd out at the market today and I sold some cds and met alot of new people and had a blast. (The guy at the booth next to where I was playing gave me free peaches, what more can you ask for!?!)

Then later today I hit 18K on SellaBand!! Woohoo! A big thanks to all my 206 believers and especially my new believer mdwh who sent me over the 18K milestone.

I spent the rest of the day snacking and hanging out by the pool at a party for my friend David who just came back from a 2 year mission trip to Italy.

My next show is this coming Friday at Buon Giorno coffee in Grapevine- hope you can make it out!

Indie Coffee Tour Begins!

I kicked off my DFW indie coffee shop tour tonight with a great gig at Urban Dog Coffee!

Brady, the awesome guy running this cool place, is really terrific! He made me feel very welcome, and at the end of the night gave me a gift card for free coffee! woohoo!

The room where I played was very intimate and the acoustics were stellar. I played solo piano for a couple hours to a small crowd, it was tons of fun! I gave a test run of a few of my newest songs (Slow Lane, Genevieve, and End of the Renaissance) You can check out “End of the Renaissance” as the most recent new add to my “New Demos” section on my music page on this website. I also tried out a few new cover songs. I played “Yellow Brick Road” by Elton John, “So Far Away” by Carole King, and a jazzy version of No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak” Also, the Counting Crows “Colorblind” seemed to strike a chord with a few listeners (haha, cheesy music joke!) Also, I debuted my cover version of “He’s a Rebel” which you can also check out in my “New Demos” section on my music page.

Brady has also offered to sell some of my cds for me, so if you happen to drop by for some coffee, you can pick up my album while you’re there! Please go check out Urban Dog Coffee, they are super great: urbandogcoffee.com

My next show on the coffee tour will be next Friday at Buon Giorno Coffee in Grapevine, TX. I’ll be playing from 8-10PM, hope to see you there!!
